Titanmoon is back.

As I first told you last August, the Fort Worth foursome is active again, after a hiatus following 2010′s We All See Stars. Led by singer-songwriter Tyler Casey, Titanmoon lost two of its founding members ( Trey Ware and Nate Schneidewent) in 2011 and gained guitarist Austin Alvis and drummer Forrest Perry. The revamped band has just released its first album in three years, a gorgeous, ambitious piece of work titled Bang Bang, and with it, an absorbing hybrid of documentary and music video titled Churches, Salons and Bars.

Casey was on hand this week at Dallas’ Angelika Film Center to oversee the world premiere of the 90-minute film, which he directed.

“What you are about to see is raw,” Casey told the audience before the film began. “It’s also real. What it is about, I’m not really sure yet.”

And, indeed, it’s tough to succinctly describe Churches, Salons and Bars, which follows the yearlong process of making Bang Bang, as well as documenting the lineup changes and incorporating slick music-video interludes. (There’s also a sublimely goofy riff on spaghetti Westerns, complete with Italian subtitles.) It’s a revealing peek inside Titanmoon’s artistic process, as well as a love letter to Dallas and Fort Worth, providing glimpses of places many likely never venture.

The band’s manager, Elizabeth Eshelman, says the guys are aiming high: Titanmoon would like to get the film entered into competition at the Cannes Film Festival (the deadline for 2013 submissions is March 11). If that doesn’t pan out, Eshelman says Churches, Salons and Barswill be screened again, and the band plans to play more shows in support of Bang Bang.

Thank you.

We made a movie.  Hopefully you’ve heard about it.  It’s called Churches, Salons, and Bars.

It took us about a year to make it, maybe more.  Definitely more.  It’s about making Bang Bang, it’s about Dallas, it’s about Fort Worth, and it’s about people.

We hoped it would make sense to you, we hoped you would like it, and it seems that maybe – no, for sure – you do.  You do.  YOU DO!!!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the making of this movie, whether you filmed it, edited it, starred in it, starred behind it, under it, around it or beside it.  Thank you for coming to our screening last night.  Thank you for supporting us.

“The movie was awesome!! Loved! Loved! Loved! How you brought together people from different races, cultures, social, and economic backgrounds creating not just an eclectic sound in the music but exposing us all to your vision of bringing us all together in this Documentary Churches, Salons, and Bars! Thanks again for sharing your vision with the world!!”

Ok. So.

Ok. So.  There is a ton of road construction around DFW International Airport.  When it is finished, it will be a huge accomplishment, and will surely help traffic to flow more smoothly.  I can’t help but wonder if this is just a quick fix when what is really needed is a good mass transit system.  This metropolitan area is growing fast. Really fast.  I guess Texans are too in love with their cars to justify hanging up their keys for a train ride.  I do however understand the love for the internal combustion engine and how it has evolved to be a part of this country’s growth.

American Dream

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

I have a dream: that Americans would choose for their dream one like that of MLK.  That instead of dreaming about houses, cars and big TVs, they would dream of peace: here and abroad.  That they would stop focusing on America as “the greatest nation on earth,” but one of many nations that share this world.  ”Black and white” was the struggle then.  We’ve come a long way since the 1960′s and that is a good thing.  ”American or not” is a struggle now.  I hope it won’t be in the near future.  It takes courage, like MLK had.  It takes understanding like MLK had.  It takes love, like MLK had.  No fear, no greed.  It takes faith in others.  It takes fathers and mothers.  It takes forgiveness and humility, kindness and nobility … and a big American word:  liberty.  Freedom – not freedom from others but freedom from fear, hate, doubt and prejudice.  MLK made big steps.  It is my hope, and I believe his, that we take some that are even bigger.

Be encouraged today as we remember someone who clearly showed us the way.
Tyler

Austin Alvis – This just in…

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

Hey there Everyone!

As the blog so graciously noted earlier, I am Austin Alvis. Guitarist, Nerd, Lover, Fighter…the list goes on (keep reading our blog to find out). I’m so very excited to take part in TITANMOON..seems like only yesterday i was meeting Tyler for the first time at the Starbucks off camp bowie…No idea what to expect or where things would take me. Our first conversation was long and full of details and ideas…and aspiration. Fast forward 5 months later….

15 song album recorded and mixed.

4 music videos completed.

Full length feature film being edited and prepped for Cannes in May.

A handful of shows and a boat full of opportunities.

This has been the busiest time of my life and I must say, the most productive and fulfilling. I hope to see this through and take TITANMOON to where her course is set (yes, a ship reference). Won’t you join us in our voyage? Its going to be amazing.
